Cayman Islands Real Wedding :: Yewande and Olaniyi

I don’t even know where to start with this wedding.  EVERYTHING (and I mean EVERYTHING) was absolutely gorgeous.  First, I fell in love with the bride and groom, then the stationery, then the table settings, then the guests…the whole three days looked so amazing and full of fun!!!

The couple and their “small” group of 100 guests (they are from Nigeria and for them, 100 people was small) spent some time together exploring the island.  The first night they took a sunset cruise on a Red Sail catamaran.  Catered by Mise En Place, this group did not go hungry!!

The second day started off with some golf and then, in the evening, the group got together for what looked like a GREAT P-A-R-T-Y!!!  With dinner at LUCA, the group danced the night away with the fantastic band, Bona Fide

Check out the photos of these two days from their friend and photographer, Wale Ariztos.  He captured some great moments–a ton of laughter, some fantastic dancing AND a fire eater!!!

Then came wedding day….

With everything on the wedding day taking place at the Ritz Carlton Grand Cayman, we were off to a good start.  Add in Yewande’s amazing dress and gorgeous yellow shoes and there was no turning back!!!  Loving the letterpress stationery, although you already knew I was a paper junkie!

And, of course, the DANCING!!!

One last amazing detail and very special touch…the bride and groom slipped thank you notes to each of their guests during the after party so when they returned to their rooms a Thank You was waiting for them.  I just thought that was SO thoughtful of them to think of their guests in this way.

Congratulatons Yewande and Olaniyi!  Thank you so much for allowing us to share your wonderful wedding weekend!!

Cayman Islands Real Wedding :: Agata and Reno, Part 2

by on May 31, 2011
in Uncategorized

I hope you enjoyed some of the details from Agata and Reno’s Cayman Islands wedding yesterday!  Today we’re going to share the portrait session with you along with some of the different and fantastic details that you might not see in photos!

First, I mentioned yesterday that the vibe was Vintage-Punk.  You may have worked it out already but if not, Reno is in a band (an awesome band, by the way!) that I have gone to see countless times throughout my years in Cayman.  So, when I tell you that these two are rock stars, well, they really are!

Second, these two are vegans and also wanted to  incorporate as many eco-friendly elements as they possibly could.  Living on an island it’s VERY difficult to have a wedding or event with zero carbon footprint, but this couple did their best and made some fantastic choices.  Here are the details:

The sparkling wine we used was Cono Sur, a company that tries to minimize their carbon footprint in their daily operations and their sparkling is vegan (some wines use animal products in the clarification). The red and white were Cooper Hill, organic, bio dynamic, and also vegan.

Beer was strictly Caybrew draft to minimize bottles (CB side note :: Caybrew is a locally made beer who recycles their bottles and their waste-water). Any liquor bottles were crushed and used in some one’s garden. The few cups used were biodegradable/compostable corn product.

All food waste was seperated and composted on site.

For invitations the couple used a web-based invitation and R.S.V.P system instead of printed paper invitations.  Also, the favor was a donation to an elephant sanctuary in Thailand that the couple previously visited.  All of the bridal party steered clear of animal products in their clothing and the groomsmen even wore shoes made with recycled material.

The couple LOVES their dogs and so of course they had to be part of the festivities!  Afterall, they were there for the engagement so it’s only natural they be there on the big day!

Happy Valentines Day!!  We all know today is a day full of love, chocolate, roses and cards with doilies (well at least that was the case in grade school, right??) so we are happy to be able to share this love filled gorgeous wedding with you today!!!

Crystal Blue ::  Why did you choose Cayman for your wedding destination?

K&S ::  We had been to Cayman twice…for my cousin’s wedding and for one day on a cruise ship and we fell in love with Cayman.  Then after losing a special family member who loved the Caymans, we knew without a doubt this would be our location.  My mother and I decided we wanted everyone to experience just what my aunt enjoyed and loved so much about the Caymans.

Crystal Blue ::  What was the design inspiration for your wedding?

K&S ::  Light pinks and coral w/ a little accent of turquoise.  I wanted it to be unique, I was pretty picky with the design and decor!  After researching and looking at other weddings/decorations for a year I knew exactly what I liked and didn’t.   My favorite part of the whole design were the canopies we had around our dinner tables.

There are so many beautiful details in this wedding I was just dying when I saw the photos!!  Oh, and let’s not forget the gorgeous day!

Cayman Islands Real Wedding :: Sheryl and Craig, The Reception

Now it’s time for the reception!  What a better place to celebrate the love than at Casanova’s!  If you’ve never been, this amazing restaurant is a must-go.  You immediately feel like family from the moment you walk in the door and don’t forget to wear your elastic waist pants (I’m sure the groom and groomsmen had them on!) because the food is just too good to not indulge.

First, how about this stunning post-ceremony photo??

I love this long table (below).  Perfect for an Italian feast and a cheers here and there!

Now that is one huge smile!  Congratulations Sheryl and Craig!!!

Cayman Islands Real Wedding :: Natalie and Matthew

in Real Weddings

Hi everyone!  Sorry for the quietness yesterday…was feeling very under the weather and had to get some rest.  Back today, though and have a fantastic real wedding of Natalie and Matthew!

The colors of the wedding were sea glass inspired light green and blue and no detail was left to chance.  Even the bride’s beautiful necklace was coordinated with the sea colors.

When speaking with Natalie, she told me the color palate inspired everything–from flowers to decor and even the guest’s attire.  To keep in line with the themed color palate, they had touches of starfish to complete the beach look.

For the ceremony, the couple enjoyed the music of Kate Allenger of Cayman Violin and also had a sand ceremony to illustrate their unity.   The reception was around the pool area at the Westin–absolutely beautiful.  Tables were dressed with blue orchids, green napkins and starfish.  Even the cupcake tower was appropriately themed.

As the sun set over the horizon, the couple danced their first dance…can you think of anything more romantic??

Cayman Islands Musician :: Kate Allenger of Cayman Violin

Today we’re featuring one of my favorite people, Kate Allenger.  If you’ve been following Crystal Blue, you would have already seen a couple of weddings Kate has been involved with, but that doesn’t even scratch the surface.  Kate is an amazing musician and such an integral part of each wedding!  Here’s what she had to say…

Crystal Blue:  How long have you been playing the violin?

Kate:  About 10 years now.  I play so many different genres it never gets dull!  Classical, contemporary, country–you name it and I’ll play it!!

Crystal Blue:  It’s great that you have such a vast range of songs to play.  How do you and the couples you work with figure out the play list for their wedding?

Kate:  I have a playlist on my website they can use as a starting point.  From there (since most couples I work with are destination couples) we figure out the details either over email or phone.

Crystal Blue:  That’s easy!  What made you start playing at weddings?

Kate:  Oh, I just LOVE weddings!!  They are always so happy and filled with joy.  I love the emotion that weddings bring…I even cry at some of my weddings (thank goodness for sunglasses!!).

Crystal Blue:  I know!!  What advice would you give to people choosing a musician for their wedding?

Kate:  Make sure you are comfortable with your musician so you can work together to discover your music style.  Of course you will want to choose some specific songs for pieces of your wedding, but have the trust in your musician to incorporate other pieces of music throughout.  Enjoy the planning process and mostly, enjoy your day!!

Crystal Blue:  Thank you so much Kate!!!!
